Un horizonte muy lejano

A comienzos del siglo XX, Joseph y sus dos hermanos malviven del cultivo de unas tierras que son propiedad, como toda la comarca, del poderoso señor Christie. El padre de Joseph muere en un accidente provocado por los hombres de Christie, y el joven toma una destartalado fusil para vengarse. Poco después, Joseph navega hacia América en compañía de Shannon, la bella hija de Christie, para escapar de un duelo. Ya en América, a Shannon le roban todo su dinero y Joseph la hace pasar por su hermana.

Entretenido film de aventuras en donde la pareja protagonista -en aquella época también en la vida real- demuestra mucha química e pantalla. Dirige Ron Howard, para algunos un director demasiado blandito, por lo que sus películas nunca alcanzan la fuerza que se les podría sacar a us historias.

A young man (Cruise) leaves Ireland with his landlord's daughter (Kidman) after some trouble with her father, and they dream of owning land at the big giveaway in Oklahoma ca. 1893. When they get to the new land, they find jobs and begin saving money. The man becomes a local barehands boxer, and rides in glory until he is beaten, then his employers steal all the couple's money and they must fight off starvation in the winter, and try to keep their dream of owning land alive. Meanwhile, the woman's parents find out where she has gone and have come to America to find her and take her back.
