Durísimo relato sobre el efecto de las drogas en la juventud. Christiane es una adolescente de apenas 14 años que poco a poco se va enganchando a la heroína, hasta el extremo de tener que prostituirse para pagarse su dependencia. Basada en hechos reales, su crudeza no evitó que tuviera un considerable éxito de taquilla en Europa.

Uli Edel describe con verismo casi documental el infierno de la protagonista, una jovencita aburrida y desmotivada, en el fondo una "vieja" casi antes de empezar a vivir, pues ya ha visto lo peor del ser humano. Los actores, casi desconocidos, están bien, y la música de David Bowie acompaña estupendamente.

This movie portrays the drug scene in Berlin in the 70s, following tape recordings of Christiane F. 14 years old Christiane lives with her mother and little sister in a typical multi-storey apartment building in Berlin. She's fascinated by the 'Sound', a new disco with most modern equipment. Although she's legally too young, she asks a friend to take her. There she meets Detlef, who's in a clique where everybody's on drugs. Step by step she gets drawn deeper into the scene.
