Una mujer, Larita Filton, es acusada por su marido, un hombre borracho y celoso, de haberse enamorado de un artista. El matrimonio se divorcia entre un gran escándalo y el artista se suicida. El mundo de Larita se viene abajo, ella ha adquirido mala reputación, por lo que decide cambiar de identidad y empezar una nueva vida. Se enamora de un joven rico y se casa con él hasta que la madre averigua su turbio pasado...

Laurita Finton is accused by her husband of being in love with an artist. There is a trial, but the artist, who has been rejected by the girl, kills himself. Laurita's world is destroyed so she decides to leave, changing her identity and starting a new life. She falls in love with a rich young man, John Whittaker, but his family doesn't like Laurita, a girl with an "easy virtue". John's mother finds out about the shadows in Laurita's past and tells everything to her son.

Pieza del cine mudo y de la etapa inglesa del maestro del suspense, ya da muestras de su visión de como hacer cine, es un filme poco conocido que relata los efectos de los escándalos y cotilleos sobre una mujer que sólo quiere llevar una vida normal. Interesante sin llegar a ser genial como otras.
