Las nieves del Kilimanjaro

Con una herida en una pierna que amenaza gangrena, el novelista Harry Street y su esposa Helen se encuentran perdidos en el continente africano y tienen pocas esperanzas de sobrevivir. En esas circunstancias, Harry recuerda los episodios más importantes de su vida: la educación que recibió de su tío Bill, sus viajes a España y a Francia e incluso las causas que los han llevado a tan dramática situación.

Colorista adaptación de una de las novelas más renombradas de Ernest Hemingway, impagable muestra de romance y aventuras que hizo que tanto la fotografía de Leon Shamroy como la dirección artística (Lyle Wheeler, John Decuir, Thomas Little y Paul S. Fox) fuesen candidatas a la estatuilla. Cuenta cómo un escritor (Gregory Peck) que se encuentra en África en compañía de su esposa (Susan Hayward) no puede olvidar al auténtico amor de su vida (Ava Gardner).
Producida por el gran jefe de la FOX, Darryl F. Zanuck, fue filmada en París, la Riviera Francesa y España. Aunque si por algo se recuerda este largometraje es por el apasionado tema de amor compuesto por Bernard Herrmann y que inunda las imágenes de una desesperación lírica pocas veces conseguidas en la historia del cine.

As writer Harry Street lays gravely wounded from an African hunting accident he feverishly reflects on what he perceives as his failures at love and writing. Through his delirium he recalls his one true love Cynthia Green who he lost by his obsession for roaming the world in search of stories for his novels. Though she is dead Cynthia continues to haunt Street's thoughts. In spite of one successful novel after another, Street feels he has compromised his talent to ensure the success of his books, making him a failure in his eyes. His neglected wife Helen tends to his wounds, listens to his ranting, endures his talk of lost loves, and tries to restore in him the will to fight his illness until help arrives. Her devotion to him makes him finally realize that he is not a failure. With his realization of a chance for love and happiness with Helen, he regains his will to live.
