Mientras están de vacaciones, Noah (Chris O'Neil) y Emma Wilder (Rhiannon Leigh Wryn) descubren una caja negra flotando en el mar. La caja es muy misteriosa. Su brillante superficie de ónix parece impenetrable y brilla y vibra casi como si tuviese personalidad propia. Cuando la caja por fin se abre, los niños quedan cautivados por su contenido: un precioso objeto de cristal con un brillo extraño y sobrenatural, piedras que irradian colores al girar y, al fondo, lo que parece un conejo disecado. Based on the acclaimed sci-fi short story by Lewis Padgett, The Last Mimzy tells the story of two children who discover a mysterious box that contains some strange devices they think are toys. As the children play with these “toys,” they begin to display higher and higher intelligence levels. Their teacher tells their parents that they seem to have grown beyond genius. Their parents, too, realize something extraordinary is happening. Emma, the younger of the two, tells her confused mother that one of the toys, a beat-up stuffed toy rabbit, is named Mimzy and that “she teaches me things.” 
Un bonita historia que nos induce un camino ante los problemas medioambientales que afectarán nuestro futuro, basada en buenos efectos especiales se nos presenta un relato que nos recuerda de alguna forma otras produciones tales como Jumanji y de alguna manera a E.T. pero nada más alejado, una producción destinada a toda la familia que puede confundir a la audiencia y que debido a debilidades en la trama puede incluso aburrir, pero sin duda es una buena propuesta que pudo haber obtenido un mejor calificativo de "entretenida" y por momentos la considero "fantástica"... e incluso "divertida".
