Resacón en Las Vegas

Dos días antes de su boda, Doug (Justin Bartha) viaja en coche a Las Vegas con sus mejores amigos, Phil y Stu (Bradley Cooper y Ed Helms), y su futuro cuñado, Alan (Zach Galifianakis), para celebrar un fiestón de despedida. A la mañana siguiente, los tres amigos del novio se despiertan con una fuerte resaca y no recuerdan nada de lo sucedido durante la juerga nocturna. La suite del lujoso hotel está convertida en un basurero y el novio no aparece por ninguna parte. Sin ninguna pista de lo sucedido y con poco tiempo que perder, los tres deben intentar recordar sus malas decisiones de la noche anterior para averiguar dónde está Doug. Pero cuanto más empiezan a descubrir, más se dan cuenta de los problemas en los que están metidos.

Una película al estilo de la hispana Fuga de cerebros, pero con un poco más de seso y clase. Comparable a los títulos más inspirados de los hermanos Farrelly o Judd Apatow, o sea, a Algo pasa con Mary y Lío embarazoso. El bien estructurado guión lo firman Jon Lucas y Scott Moore, que antes hicieron Como en casa en ningún sitio, y dirige un Todd Philipps que empezó con comedias al estilo Porky's (Viaje de pirados, Aquellas juergas universitarias), para pasarse a algo más convencional (Starsky & Hutch (2004)), y madurar en la ruta de la comedia disparatada con Escuela de pringaos. Aquí sigue la vena de explotar situaciones completamente absurdas, que se dirían imposibles en el mundo real, ilógicas, pero que funcionan en el mecanismo de la trama de juerga increíble. Phillips sabe imprimir ritmo a la historia, y aprovecha bien una serie de gags desternillantes, muy ocurrentes, con frases brillantes: la pregunta sobre el antiguo ocupante del hotel Caesar's Palace es un ejemplo entre mil de lo que resulta ser una auténtica antología del disparate.


Pero... Pero, como suele ocurrir en este tipo de filmes, se sigue con demasiada frecuencia el camino de la zafiedad, incluso con imágenes desagradables -esa galería de fotos al final, que resume la noche olvidada-, que verdaderamente no hacían ninguna falta. Podría uno decir que la película es un canto a la amistad o así -la película, tras el planteamiento esbozado antes, no consiste en otra cosa que en dar con el paradero del novio-, o que da por bueno que todo vale en una despedida de solteros, no hay cortapisas morales, pero seguramente es decir demasiado, estamos ante un puro divertimento, típico de la sociedad inmadura en la que estamos inmersos.

Angelenos Doug Billings and Tracy Garner are about to get married. Two days before the wedding, the four men in the wedding party - Doug, Doug's two best buddies Phil Wenneck and Stu Price, and Tracy's brother Alan Garner - hop into Tracy's father's beloved Mercedes convertible for a 24-hour stag party to Las Vegas. Phil, a married high school teacher, has the same maturity level as his students when he's with his pals. Stu, a dentist, is worried about everything, especially what his controlling girlfriend Melissa thinks. Because she disapproves of traditional male bonding rituals, Stu has to lie to her about the stag, he telling her that they are going on a wine tasting tour in the Napa Valley. Regardless, he intends on eventually marrying her, against the advice and wishes of his friends. And Alan seems to be unaware of what are considered the social graces of the western world. The morning after their arrival in Las Vegas, they awaken in their hotel suite each with the worst hangover. None remembers what happened in the past twelve or so hours. The suite is in shambles. And certain things are in the suite that shouldn't be, and certain things that should be in the suite are missing. Probably the most important in the latter category is Doug. As Phil, Stu and Alan try to find Doug using only what little pieces of information they have at hand, they go on a journey of discovery of how certain things got into the suite and what happened to the missing items. However they are on a race for time as if they can't find Doug in the next few hours, they are going to have to explain to Tracy why they are not yet back in Los Angeles. And even worse, they may not find Doug at all before the wedding.
